An early morning car chase on Tuesday, Jan. 31, in White Oak led to the arrests of three people on charges of underage firearms possession by  Montgomery County police, authorities said.

Police said they tried to stop a car that was driving without headlights around 1:26 a.m. in the 11300 block of Lockwood Drive. Police said the  vehicle refused to stop and sped away, but the driver of the vehicle eventually lost control and crashed at the intersection of Industrial Parkway and Route 29. No one was injured in the crash. 

Guns and “other evidence of criminal activity” were allegedly found in the car, according to a release from the department. Rebecca Innocenti, a spokesperson for the police department, said investigators believe that the suspects were in the area to commit street robberies, but “we’re not speaking specifically about what evidence was found in the vehicle.”

Police arrested two people in the front seat, a 20-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man. Both were charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition for a firearm by a person under 21, and possession of a handgun in a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was also charged with additional traffic-related offenses, police said.

The two passengers in the back seat got out of the car and ran away, police said. One, an 18-year-old man, was arrested near daybreak and charged with the same crimes, according to authorities. Police are still looking for the fourth passenger.

Innocenti said the suspects may be behind robberies that went unreported. The department is encouraging any victims of robberies or anyone with information about a robbery in the area to contact the 3rd District Investigative Section at 301-565-5835.
