ICC Buses to Collect Fares Monday

Two commuter bus routes currently run from Gaithersburg.

Commuters using the ICC buses to travel throughout Montgomery County can’t take advantage of free rides any longer.

Fares-- $3.20 for people over 65 years old or people with disabilities and $5 for everyone else-- will be required beginning Monday, March 14.

Free bus fares were a part of the ICC test-drive, wherein the toll road was free for drivers and buses were free for passengers. Tolls for the road began March 7

Two bus routes travel from Gaithersburg, one arriving at Baltimore-Washington International Airport and the second at Ft. Meade.

Routes for the 201 bus to BWI include four stops in Montgomery County, including the Norbeck and Burtonsville Park and Ride lots, and three stops at BWI. This route runs seven days a week.

The second bus route, the 202, makes three stops in the county, including the Norbeck Park and Ride, and also stops at the Savage MARC station and Ft. Meade. This route operates weekdays. (See the full schedules for both routes attached to this article.)

Fares for the buses are:

One-Way Full Fare: $5

One-Way Senior/Disability Fare: $3.20

Ten-Trip Ticket: $38.25

Ten-Trip Ticket, Senior/Disability: $32

Monthly Pass: $144.50

Transit Link Card: $241.50

Commuter Choice Maryland Vouchers and WMATA SmartBenefit Vouchers are also accepted on ICC buses.

Well another disincentive to ride this bus route for those travelling just a partial length of the ICC if you have to pay full fare to use it regardless of the distance you travel.

Thanks for commenting, Peter. Good point. I could see it saving a bit of money if you're going all the way to BWI (I used to take the B-30 bus a lot and that was more than $5), but it's pricey for shorter distances.
